On Tuesday, July 2, at 3 p.m., an auction will be held with more than 250 items from the most important glassworks in the lagoon. Many of the offerings have attractive estimates: this is an excellent opportunity to introduce a new audience of neophytes to one of the areas that has experienced a significant increase in the market in recent years. Prominent in a wide selection are many specimens by the greatest authors of the European twentieth century, catalogued and authenticated by department director Marco Arosio, with estimates between €300 and €2,000.

Discerning collectors will also find a selection of vases of great rarity and beauty such as the three polychrome vases from the Oriente series designed by Dino Martens for the Aureliano Toso glassworks (Lot No. 82 - 5,000-6,000 €, Lot No. 83 - 3,000-3,500 €, Lot No. 84 - 5,000-6,000 €).

Architect Carlo Scarpa, a leader for adjudications in recent years, is represented by several rare vases from the A Bollicine series and a beautiful chiseled heavy glass example (Lot No. 36 - 6,000-8,000 €), all objects produced by Venini in the 1930s.

By Ercole Barovier are some exceptional pieces for invention and execution technique, coming out of the kilns of Barovier&Toso. The most remarkable specimen is the square-section vase with large multicolored murrine, probably a unique piece executed in the early 1960s (Lot No. 129 - €6,000-8,000).

Of great quality many Venini vases executed in the 1980s-1990s by the latest generations of designers-Toni Zuccheri, Tapio Wirkkala, Timo Sarpaneva, Alessandro Mendini. Among the last lots in the auction are some rare specimens from the EOS glassworks, a manufacture that unfortunately had a short life but which experienced the return to Murano of Venini's heirs, Laura and Alessandro Diaz de Santillana, executed by master Lino Tagliapietra.
